چکیده
Solidification occurs in several material processing methods, such as in casting, welding, and laser additive manufacturing of metals, and it controls the nanoand microstructures and the overall properties. Recent advances in experimental and computational modeling techniques have made it possible to more e ectively study atomistic and microscale mechanisms that control the solidification structures and formation and evolution of solidification defects. This Special Issue solicits articles demonstrating recent advancements in the following areas:

MODELING OF RAPID SOLIDIFICATION PROCESS IN THE GAS ATOMIZATION OF MOLTEN METALS
In the present work, a model was proposed to predict the thermal history during rapid solidification (RS) of metal droplets in the gas atomization process. The classical theory of heterogeneous nucleation was based on Newtonian heat flow and enthalpy method. Solving the governing numerical equations by the finite difference method (FDM) gave up the opportunity of analyzing the temperature-time ...
متن کاملStudy of Dynamic Solid-Liquid Interfacial Phenomena in Hypereutectic Al-Si Alloy Using in situ HRTEM
Solid-liquid interfaces are extensively encountered in materials processing and applications. The structure and properties of these interfaces affect solidification, wetting behavior, and crystalline growth mechanisms, including epitaxial growth. The exact structural and chemical nature of these interfaces has been historically difficult to study at high resolution due to the fact that one phas...
متن کاملThermal Simulation of Solidification Process in Continuous Casting
In this study, a mathematical model is introduced to simulate the coupled heat transfer equation and Stefan condition occurring in moving boundary problems such as the solidification process in the continuous casting machines. In the continuous casting process, there exists a two-phase Stefan problem with moving boundary. The control-volume finite difference approach together with the boundary ...
متن کاملLiquation and re-solidification in thermo-mechanically affected zone during friction stir spot welding of AZ91 alloy
The present research aims to study the liquation and re-solidification of liquid during friction stir spot welding of AZ91 alloy. Although friction stir spot welding is a solid-state process, the presence of Mg17Al12 intermetallic compounds results in liquation during the welding process. In this study, friction stir spot welding was performed with a tool rotational speed of 2500 rev/min and a ...
